The Presidential Palace is the place where national ceremonies are held to welcome international heads of state when they make an official visit to Vietnam. It is also the president's and senior executives' official workplace in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It has significant historical significance for Vietnam. The building is in the centre of Hanoi, on Hung Vuong and Hoang Van Thu Streets.
The Presidential Palace's history
Following the capture of Ha Noi in 1883, the French colonialists reconstructed the city by upgrading the infrastructure, resulting in the creation of a new Ha Noi, which included the headquarters of the Indochina General Governor, which served as the first colonial exploitation. French architect Charles Lichtenfelder designed the Indochina General Governor (later the President Palace) with three stories and completed it in less than five years. The Presidential Palace bears a strong similarity to European design, but thanks to the gardens and orchard, it has become distinctive and magnificent. The structure, which was finished in 1906, had the most majestic aspect and scale in Vietnam at the time.
The Presidential Palace's architecture
The Presidential Palace is connected to President Ho Chi Minh's stilt house by Mango Alley, a 300-foot-long promenade where President Ho Chi Minh used to go for a walk after work.
The Palace, which is painted in a mustard-yellow tint, has long been recognized as a symbol of the French contribution to the splendor of Indochina architecture. The building strongly showcases the French architectural style beneath a conical construction. The architectural style of the second level also shows elements of Italian Renaissance architecture utilized in the 16th and 17th centuries, as seen by a stairway ending in an arched entrance, broken gables, elaborate columns, and an aedicule. The palace's gates are fashioned of wrought iron, and there are sentry boxes at the entrance.
President Ho Chi Minh refused to stay in this palace.
Despite the fact that the structure was designed in a low and simple form to serve as President Ho Chi Minh's official working office and residence, he declined to remain in it and instead chose to live in a little stilt house (Ho Chi Minh's stilt house). He also opted to only use the palace for prominent visitors to Hanoi. President Ho Chi Minh has received over 1,000 domestic and international delegations in the last 15 years. He also read several greeting notes for Lunar New Year Day in this location.
The palace now adheres to the historical tradition of solely hosting official receptions for dignitaries and administrative meetings.
