Nha Trang is a beautiful seaside city nestled between mountains and the sea. Nha Trang is divided into three halves by the Cai and Cua Be rivers, with a total of 19 islands. There is so much to see and do in this magnificent city. Let's discover the top 9 best islands in Nha Trang.
1. Hon Tam (Silkworm Island)
For its untamed tropical forest, long beach, and clear water, Hon Tam (Silkworm Island) has become a familiar name for travelers to Nha Trang's coastal city in recent years. Hundreds of ancient trees, such as tamarind, willow, almond, and bamboo, as well as a variety of colorful flowers, such as daisies and sunflowers, cover the island. The Hon Tam Resort, which offers bungalow accommodations, camping amenities, and, of course, a restaurant, is the only place where travelers can stay.
Boating, wind-surfing, jet-skiing, mountain climbing, hiking, parasailing, and notably scuba-diving, to explore the secrets of the aquatic world and witness millions of fish and colorful corals around the rocks, are only a few of the activities accessible on the island for sightseeing and sunbathing. As a result, Hon Tam Resort is an excellent place to relax and improve one's health.
2. Hon Mun (Ebony Island)
Hon Mun Island is located in Nha Trang Bay to the south. It was given the name Mun (Ebony) because of the high-rise cliffs with perilous wattles that form caves and grottoes in the island's southeast, and its stones are as black as ebony. Year each year, flocks of swallows fly to Hon Mun's black-stone caves to build their nests. The sea bed is home to a varied range of marine animals, making it a fascinating and helpful area for researchers, oceanographers, and visitors to study and learn more about the lives of aquatic creatures.
Travelers can go scuba diving or take a glass-bottom boat tour at Hon Mun to see the colorful coral and sea life. All of the diving centers stop near this island since the visibility is always superb. There's a huge variety of corals of all colors, as well as a lot of gorgeous tropical fish.
3. Hon Tre Island
Hon Tre island is the biggest one in Nha Trang Bay, and it is home to the 5-star Sofitel Vinpearl Resort and Spa. The island has been connected to the mainland by a cable car system since the beginning of 2007, in addition to ferry shuttles that not only service the hotel but also bring tourists to Vinpearl Land Nha Trang, the island's big amusement park. A number of stores and a reconstructed historic village are also part of the plan.
Despite being impacted by human activities, the island preserves its natural beauty, with its endless forest covering the mountainsides. Hon Tre Island has benefited from its great location, which includes gorgeous natural beaches, virgin vegetation, and a moderate environment, for the growth of ecotourism and recreational tourism.
4. Hon Mieu Island
Hon Mieu is 5 kilometers southeast of Nha Trang. It is Nha Trang Bay's best inshore island, and it takes 15 minutes to get there by ferry from Cau Da Port. The Tri Nguyen Aquarium is an outdoor fish lake and one of the island's most popular attractions. Inside is a small ocean with numerous rare species of marine life, notably living corals farmed like in the ocean, fashioned in the style of a fossil ship with clinging moss.
Tri Nguyen Fishing Village, which is constructed up around the bay, and Bai San Beach, which is on the other side of the island, are the two significant attractions on Hon Mieu. The best way to experience the island is to take a boat excursion around Hon Mieu and eat fresh seafood directly from the raft.
5. Monkey Island (aka Hon Lao Island)
It is a private island about 2 kilometers off the coast north of Nha Trang, known locally as Hon Lao Island but better known to foreigners as Monkey Island. It is a very large island with a population of 1500 monkeys. There is a wonderful beach with huts and chairs for guests to enjoy, as well as a simple water slide and other water-based entertainment. The primary attractions are the colony of monkeys allowed to roam anywhere on the island and the "dog & monkey show," which runs three times every day.
Nha Phu, a magnificent cluster of islets nestled in a crystal blue lagoon near Monkey Island, is known for its quiet settings and many attractions. Nha Phu is a slice of solitary heaven for nature enthusiasts who desire to immerse themselves in tranquility. Another great spot near Monkey Island is Orchid Stream Island, which is home to the orchid caverns. Before travelling to the local animal sanctuary, where you can witness deer and peacocks roaming freely, hundreds of varieties of colorful and gorgeous blooms hang from the ceilings.
6. Hon Yen (Bird's Nest Island)
Hon Yen, about 25 kilometers northeast of Nha Trang, is the home of thousands of birds and the country's greatest source of Salanganes Nest reserves. Hon Yen is made up of magnificent and wild islands that are nestled in the middle of the vast sea and sky, adding to the natural splendor of the area. Put on a diving mask and take a deep breath to admire the island's big and gorgeous coral reef, which resembles a glass of tropical fish. On the island, there is also a peak that offers a panoramic view of Hon Yen; hike to Du Ha mountain and enjoy the fresh flavor of the Nha Trang sea.
7. Binh Ba Island
Binh Ba is a tiny little island of over 3 km2 in Khanh Hoa Province, located in Cam Binh Commune, Cam Ranh City. It's 60 kilometers south of Nha Trang and 15 kilometers east of Ba Ngoi port (Cam Ranh). Binh Ba is a military island in Khanh Hoa province, which is why tourists were previously prohibited from visiting it. Currently, there are various areas in Binh Ba that domestic visitors can visit. Foreigners, on the other hand, are still not permitted on the island. Hopefully, the government will take this into account and reform the law soon. This place is far too beautiful to be reserved for a select few.
8. Whale Island (Ong Island)
Whale Island is a small archipelago located 80 kilometers north of Nha Trang. It's a true haven — the perfect spot for unwinding and taking in the island's various sights and artifacts. Whale Island is famed for its hidden gems in the luxuriant soft corals, with an average water temperature hanging around a pleasant 28 degrees Celsius. This adds to the thrill of diving in this location.
The island has remained virtually undisturbed due to the lack of population. It is also regarded as the Maldives of Vietnam due to its amazing beauty. The scenery beneath the lake is just as stunning as the scenery above it. The waters are deep, calm, and clear, allowing you to see the undersea sea life up close, which includes anything from stunning coral reefs to fish and seahorses.
9. Diep Son Island
Diep Son is a little green archipelago located approximately an hour north of Nha Trang in the calm, pleasant waters of Van Phong Bay. At low tide, a curved sandbar is revealed, forming a "sand bridge" connecting three of the islets. The turquoise bay's broad strip of white sand between the three green islands is breathtaking.
Most people are enchanted by the Diep Son route, which is submerged under the sea and connects three islands to Van Gia town. When the tide is low, a sand road appears; it usually occurs at 6 a.m., but this time can vary depending on the moon period. It is around 500m long and 8m wide on the island, but as one proceeds away from the island, it narrows to 2-3m.
Although domestic tour groups are growing more popular, it is advisable to visit Diep Son on your own to avoid congestion.
