10 Best Hanoi things to do

We are pleasurable to recommend 10 must–do things in Hanoi when exploring this thousand–year city.

1. Take a stroll through Hanoi Old Quarter

If you are not staying in the Hanoi Old Quarter, you must roam this ultimate maze of stores, restaurants, cafes, bars, temples, and people-watching. You'll get lost in the Old Quarter, but that's the best way to see everything it has to offer.

The Old Quarter has been since the 13th century, and since then, a guild has been in charge of each street, and this has been maintained to some extent. You'll observe that each street still specializes in a specific business, such as fashion trimmings, bamboo poles, or metal cages, as you go about. If you become disoriented, simply return to Hoan Kiem Lake and use it as a compass.

2. Try some street food

Eat everything!!! If you enjoy Vietnamese cuisine, this is the place for you. Initially, I stuck to Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) and Pho (noodle soup), but thankfully, a buddy introduced me to new foods such as savory porridge with shredded pig and fish soups. If you don't like it, keep in mind that it's quite inexpensive, and you can always get something else. The food in Hanoi was incredible.

3. Enjoy Hanoi's weekend night market

This market, which stretches from Hang Dao Street to Dong Xuan Market, produces a bustling and packed pedestrian thoroughfare. Many people come here on weekend evenings to promenade or shop, and it has become a habit.

People come here for shopping or simply to take in the ambience of the night market and the Hanoians' customs. Children are eager to go shopping with their families, to sit on their father's shoulders, to hold their mother's hand, to walk in a crowd, to play with sand pictures, and to paint sculptures. It's incredibly sweet to see lovers walking down the street hand in hand, smiling, taking pictures, and shopping for clothes on the weekends. A large number of foreign tourists visit the city to sightsee or shop.

4. Enroll in a cooking class

Cooking classes abound in Hanoi, just as they do in Hoi An, so you may learn how to prepare the most delectable Vietnamese dishes. It'll be a lot of fun and fulfilling because you'll be able to take a little bit of Asia home with you! because there are so many cooking classes to choose from.

5. Take a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake

Hoan Kiem Lake, located in the heart of Hanoi Old Quarter, is a must-see on any list of Hanoi tourist attractions. It's a nice location to walk around and photograph the beautiful trees and flowers, or stop for a coffee and soak in the scenery. Photograph the Turtle Tower, which sits on an island in the middle of the lake.

Jade Island is located in the north-eastern part of the lake and may be reached via the magnificent wooden Huc Bridge. The Ngoc Son Temple, established in the 18th century, can be reached through this bridge. It's incredible.

6. Cross the busy street

The Old Quarter of Hanoi is a whirlwind of activity, with motorbikes and cars zipping around everywhere. Try crossing the street in Hanoi if you believe you've seen it all. To do so, you'll have to set aside your common sense and sanity for the time being. Pedestrian crossings are ignored, traffic lights are disregarded, and one-way streets are treated as if they were in your own backyard.

Following or walking behind a local who knows what they're doing is one of the simplest methods to cross the street. Otherwise, simply walk directly into incoming automobiles and motorcycles. The first two or three attempts may be difficult, but you will soon get the hang of it. The objective is to not pause while crossing; vehicles are aware that you will be walking out and will, weirdly, calculate their course and speed based on your walking speed.

7. Ride a cyclo around Hanoi

Walking about the Old Quarter can be taxing on the feet, so why not have a peaceful tour while reclining comfortably in a cyclo? It's really worth it, and the riders are extremely friendly and will point out interesting sights while you ride.

8. Sip a cup of egg coffee

A tiny glass of strong, aromatic sweet coffee is beaten with an egg and sweetened with condensed milk to make egg coffee. It is unquestionably a must-try when visiting Hanoi. By the way, while the egg part may seem unusual, the Vietnamese have managed to make coffee with eggs that is quite tasty.

9. Take a taxi on a motorcycle

"Hello... hello... motor... motorbike..." In Hanoi, this is how Vietnamese motorbike taxis approach visitors in an attempt to get them to ride with them. Taxis are convenient, but riding in the back of a motorbike taxi is thrilling and one of the most enjoyable things to do in Hanoi. They can be found on every street corner at all hours of the day and night. These motorbike taxis are known as "xe om" in Vietnamese. Make sure you negotiate a fare ahead of time, with some haggling, of course.
