Sa Dec is home to a variety of flowers and is one of South Vietnam's floral centers. The best time to visit Sa Dec village is in the spring, when all of the flowers are in bloom and the village transforms into a magnificent floral garden.
Sa Dec Town, Tan Qui Dong Commune, Dong Thap Province is home to the Sa Dec Flower Village. This park covers 60 hectares and employs 3,600 laborers who specialize in flower and ornamental plant cultivation. Unlike many other flower cities across the country, Sa Dec's fields produce blooms all year. When spring arrives, the festival in Sa Dec bonsai village begins. Cars from all around the world arrive in droves. During the Tet holiday, many kinds of flowers and bonsai rush to Ho Chi Minh City and adjacent regions to flaunt their beauty.
The flower town of Sa Dec, located on the bank of the annually windy Tien River of Fertility and Sun, is the home of hundreds of "unusual flowers and weird herbs." You can observe rare and valuable bonsai that are hundreds of years old here. Simple trees such as thistle, areca, fig, benjamine fig, ochna atropurpurea, and others are close to the lives of laborers. They were transformed into rare bonsai with gorgeous and strange forms by the clever, diligent, and talented hands of artisan-artists.
One of the most distinguishing characteristics of Sa Dec, which sets it apart from other flower villages, is that Sa Dec farmers grow flowers on shelves. According to some ancient farmers who own flower gardens, they used to have to shift flower pots to higher places or shelves during flood season to avoid being ruined by water, and so they switched to planting flowers on shelves. Farmers rowing boats on canals to tend or harvest flowers grown on trellises above their heads, which is only seen in this location, is quite interesting and striking.
At any time of year, visitors to Sa Dec's flower village appear to be lost in a fairyland, full of the colors and smells of many flowers and plants, such as dahlia, hydrangeas, orchids, areca, wrightia religiosa, Hibiskus rosa-sinensis, and African marigold.
