Because of the complicated river and canal system, the Mekong Delta boasts a wide variety of fish, which are used to make Bun Ca (noodle soup with fish), the most popular Mekong Delta dish. Due to its distinct flavor, bun ca in the Mekong Delta is distinct from that of other parts of Vietnam.
Bun Ca is one of the most popular dishes in the Mekong Delta because the locals enjoy noodle soups and Mother Nature provides them with a plentiful supply of fish. Bun ca Chau Doc, Bun ca Kien Giang, Bun ca Soc Trang, are just a few of the many variations of this tasty dish.
Bun Ca in the Mekong Delta is prepared from snake fish that live in rice fields, unlike Bun Ca in Central Vietnam. The clear and hearty broth, made from bones, snake fish bones, ginger, and tomatoes, gives the dish its flavor. Green onions are added as late in the cooking procedure as possible. Moreover, the vegetables, which include beansprout, water spinach, hot mint, and iên iin (a local pea plant) blooms, are very clean and fresh. The soup is likewise one-of-a-kind. It has a lot of different flavors and scents.
The fish can be boiled or fried until golden brown. To serve, place the rice noodles and snake fish pieces in a bowl and pour the soup over them. Diners can season their Bun Ca with fish sauce, lime wedges, and chile on the side.Bun ca is served in a huge bowl with rice noodles in a light yellow broth, topped with precisely boiled snakehead fish slices, prawns, and crispy roasted pig slices.
Amongst Bun Ca dish in Mekong Delta area, Bun ca Kien Giang (Kien Giang fish and shrimp noodle soup) is the most well-known one. Bun Ca Kien Giang is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup from the southern Vietnamese province of Kiên Giang. Although a whole snakehead fish is traditionally used in the soup, modern cooks prefer a rich stock made from pork bones.
The meal is commonly made with shrimp, fish sauce, oil, onions, salt, sugar, garlic, pickled leeks, hot chili peppers, eggs, paprika or annatto, rice noodles, mung bean sprouts, scallions, rau ram (Vietnamese coriander), cucumbers, and catfish or tilapia fillets, though there are some variations.
This filling noodle soup is traditionally served with lime wedges and mint sprigs on the side.
